PCO Rewarded $20,000 Grant From Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation

Grant focuses on general operating support

(Portland, OR) The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Portland Chamber Orchestra (PCO), it was announced by PCO Board President, Stephen Shepherd. The grant will enable the orchestra to continue providing outstanding performances and expanding its impact within the community.

President Shepherd expressed his gratitude for the foundation’s support and highlighted the PCO’s longstanding presence in the area. “Over the course of 75 seasons, the Portland Chamber Orchestra has become a cherished institution, known for its diverse programming that encompasses both traditional and unique musical experiences. The orchestra has consistently collaborated with noteworthy guest artists from around the world while showcasing the exceptional talents of local performers. Thanks to the generous support from the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, the Portland Chamber Orchestra will continue to strengthen relationships with our loyal patronage, while engaging a new generation of concert goers.”

PCO Artistic Director and Conductor Yaacov Bergman emphasized the significance of this grant in propelling the orchestra forward. “The Portland Chamber Orchestra is deeply grateful to the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation for its generous award.” Maestro Bergman stated. “Being recognized as Portland’s premiere chamber orchestra and the oldest in the United States, the PCO has a rich history and a unique mission. The grant from the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation will play a vital role in ensuring a successful 2023/24 season for the orchestra. With this support, the PCO will be able to continue presenting multi-arts concept programs that bring together different artistic disciplines to create a cohesive and immersive experience for audiences.”

Bergman added, “Moreover, the grant will also contribute to the PCO’s educational outreach activities throughout the region. These programs aim to engage and inspire the community, fostering a deeper appreciation for classical music and the arts among people of all ages.”

Maestro Bergman is now in his 22 nd consecutive season as Artistic Director and conductor of the orchestra. The orchestra performs at several venues in the Portland Metropolitan Area: Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, Kaul Auditorium on Reed College campus, Agnes Flanagan Chapel on the Lewis and Clark Campus and St. Michael Lutheran Church in northeast Portland. These venues, each with its own distinct characteristics, offer the Portland Chamber Orchestra a range of settings in which to captivate their audiences and bring their music to life.

About the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation

The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation was established by Dave and Sally Bany in 1998 to support nonprofit organizations throughout Oregon and Washington. The Foundation now focuses on nonprofit programs that support education and mentorship, arts and creativity and health and wellness. The Foundation was named for Sally’s grandmother, Marie Lamfrom.
