What is a Chamber Orchestra?

Smaller than a symphony, larger than a chamber group — a chamber orchestra features around 35 musicians, offering audiences the opportunity to experience a more intimate orchestral setting. This smaller ensemble, the norm before 1800, can perform jewels of the repertoire that are inappropriate for the larger symphonic body, giving the public a chance to hear exquisite musical works that are less frequently performed, and not limited to one period or style.
