Neanderthals co-existed with humans until Neanderthals became extinct between 25,000 and 45,000 years ago.  This bone fragment with two complete holes and two portions of holes is believed to be a flute that plays the diatonic scale (do, re, me, fa). This suggests that music has been part of the human – and human-related – brain since the dawn of our species.
